Shakti Maror trek of GHNP

View of Raktiser area from Gugnadhar

Shakti and Maror are the remotest villages of Kullu District . Shakti is around 17 km and Maror about 24 km from road head . Due to their isolation a distinct culture has been developed in the area . Devta ( Local deity ) is very powerful and govern almost all the aspects of local people's life.

Entire 17 km trek from Niharni to Shakti passes through dense forest along the Sainj river ( Great Himalayan National Park and Sainj Wildlife Sanctuary )

Area is also heaven for bird watchers , we recorded more than 40 bird species along the trek .

very nice blog,i dont know if it is the right place to ask,my apologies in advance,
Sir, me an my friend are students in delhi,we just visited the GHNP,and we also went to villages there, shakti and bah.there were quite nice people who helped us quite a lot,but they had bad impression for park authorities and told us that they are being asked by them to move out from there villages, and were proposed to be denied the basic woods needs and they will have to buy it from govt, after knowing that we were students, they wanted us to write to authorities, but i personally have very little knowledge about forests laws and moreover we are not clear about the real picture,so please its a humble request from you, please look into the matter, and also if possible tell us what is being asked to them in reality.
thanking you,
Shivam

Dear Shivam
i think there is some misunderstanding and lack of communication . people of these villages will be shifted only after implementing proper resettlement plan because as per provisions of Wildlife protection act habitation inside the national park is not allowed .
